The crisis management policy has developed dramatically in the last decade. This is mainly due to the new forms of crises that have arisen (terror attacks, extreme weather conditions and bird flu) and through the now international dimension of crises.
Within the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (VenW) the Departmental Coordination Centre for Crisis Management (DCC-VenW) is responsible for an effective crisis management policy and a professional strategy to crises.
The Ministry’s Crisis Management Coordination Centre is becoming an ever-increasing strategic partner within the crisis management network of the Dutch Government. An effective and efficient Crisis Coordination Centre should make sure that the consequences of a crisis situation become as limited as possible upon the community.
A wide knowledge of safety points, investment in a good network management and intensive training and drill management are the most important spearheads in the growth of the DCC-VenW. The most important goal of our organisation is to reach the point where crisis management has become an integral part of the work process within the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. All the way from the very top into the roots of the organisation.
